Silver AV TV Audio Video Cable for iPhone 3G
By reading this website you know that I don’t like to spend to much on the gadgets I get. And although I am very happy with my iPhone and iPod’s I never could get myself to spend almost 50 dollars for the Apple cable to get my video’s from my device to the TV.
But then I found this AV cable at budgetgadgets and they charged me less then 12 dollars. And so I got myself this cable.
And today it arrived in the mail. OK no fancy boxes just a small envelope with a well protected cable inside but do I really need all that packaging?
This cable has some nice plugs for audio and video all made out of metal and there is an USB plug to make it possible to charge your iPod / iPhone while watching a a movie.
Besides to tell you how nice it is to watch your video on TV there is not much more to say about this cable. It let me turn of the screen of my iPhone 3G when the movie is playing on the TV and that of course will save me power.
I could find only one little tiny thing they could have improved and that is the plug that go’s in your iPod there is no marking on it to tell you what way to put it in. For me this means that I will mark it later today but it would have bin nice if they did that for me.
Also the wires are the perfect length not to short and not to long either.
So let me tell you this if you like the idea to watch movies on TV through your iPod / iPhone then go visit Budgetgadgets and order a cable today. They ship it all over the world for FREE.
update June 17, 2009. Apple’s new software for the iPhone makes this cable to stop working!
So when you get version 3.0 on your iPhone it will not work any more. It worked for me once but that seemed to be pure luck. Of course I keep my eye out for a cheap cable that works.

Sounds like a good deal! Does this work with the latest iPhone 3G firmware, v2.2.1? Thanks!

Yes i have firmware v.2.2.1 myself and it works. It gave a hickup once but besides that it works great so handy to watch a movie on your iPhone when it is charging.

My question is this… This USB cable …. Is it a data USB connection or simply the charger USB connection. Asking because my data USB cable that came with my phone needs replacing as well. Walmart sells that simple USB cable for almost 30 bucks alone. Charging USB is different than charging/data capable cable. Anybody know if this USB is able to be used in sync operation?? If so, great saves alot of $$

Hi Patrick,
I just checked that for you and sorry but it will not replace your datacable. It can just be used for charging.
For me this works because my radio has a USB plug so I plug it in there and in the TV and I am ready to watch movies and charge my iPhone.

i wonder once iphone OS being upgraded to 3.0, will this AV cable be still workable?
June 7th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
It says right on the site that this DOES NOT work for Iphones with 2.2.1.
So, for most of us…the search for an affordable cable continues.

Funny that they say that because it works for me and my iPhone 3.g is at version 2.2.1 right now.

How ’bout the 2G iPhone? Does the cable work for that phone as well?
June 11th, 2009 at 12:49 pm
What i personally tested is:
Iphone 3G
ipod touch
ipod touch 2e generation
ipod nano 3e generation
and they all worked. And next week i will give the new OS a test to see if that works.

Any luck with 3.0 and this cable?
By the way, has anyone ever heard of a jailbreak hack that lets you mirror whatever is on the iPhone screen, like they do at Apple events? I’m writing a teacher guide for how to implement many iPhone tools by sending the video signal to a screen (projector or TV), such as using the calculator on-screen while teaching math.

did you find out if it works for ipod touch 1st gen at OS 3.0?
do you need to jailbreak and install veency or similar to use it?
June 18th, 2009 at 5:27 pm
I don’t have a touch available right now so I can’t answer that. Anybody out there that tried?

does it require jailbreak to work?
( do you need to install something? )
June 18th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
No before version 3.0 it just worked no jailbreaking.

did you tried with TVOut(BigBoss) or ScreenSplitr(BigBoss) from cydia installed?
because if its a software problem we can make it work, but if its a hardware….

It should work fine with Jailbroken iPhones running TV Out (BigBoss) or ScreenSplitr (BigBoss) from Cydia.
The only reason it does not work in 3.0 is because of software.
Even if it didn’t work initially, it would be a simple fix on any Jailbroken device.

Dear Friends, I have an Iphone 2G upgraded to OS 3.0 from OS 1.1.4. I bought an AV cable one year ago, and it works fine in the 1.1.4, but today with the 3.0, it did not, so I take the attnck advice and find TV Out in my Cidia installer and the ScreenSplitr, I will try this new software in my house, tomorow I can tell you what happened.
