iPhone 3G downgrade

author Posted by: USBgeek on date Aug 2nd, 2010 | filed Filed under: iPhone / iPod Touch

Yes when the new operating system for the iPhone came out I wanted it even though I have an iPhone 3G.
folders that was what I thought something I needed and the update of mail was something I also excited about.

But after I got IOS 4 my phone got so slow that I regretted using it at all. I use notes a lot for work and that was so slow that I started to use paper again.

But then I found this little Youtube video:

and so I decided to give it a try.

First I would say if you want to do this yourself of course look at the video but also read this article at Lifehacker.

The downgrade is pretty simple and go’s a lot quicker then upgrading to IOS 4.

After the downgrade I of course was unlucky and didn’t have a backup of my old stuff in os version 3.1.x any more so my apps where all empty but I expected that so I made sure I copied what I needed before I tried to install anything.

I would say if you iPhone 3G is so slow that you like to trow it agains the wall then go try this yourself. I was ready to buy and iPhone 4 before I did the downgrade but my phone provider charged to much so this works for me right now.

Be aware that you will soon not be able to download lots of new apps any more because most of them are getting ready for IOS 4.

Protect your iPad for less then 8.5 Dollars

OK so now you own a beautifull iPad and of course like me you love this machine.

But what if something happends to it?

The back is nice but really prone to a scratch here or there, and how about the glass on the front? yes it is strong and probably does not scratch to easy but do you want to risk it?

My friends at Budgetgadgets.com send me a suprise package that can really help every iPad owener.

  • A hard shell to protect the iPad from bumps and scratches. The one I got (see picture above) is made out of stronge plastic and this one is shiny black. It easily clicks on the iPad and stays in place without any problems. Now all the corners and side and back are protected agains bumps and scratches. If you want to get it of even that is not to much efford but you need two hands because on it’s own it will not come off.
There is a perfect gap for the volume and tilt switches. This case has a big hole in the middle that shows the Apple logo. Personally I would have prefered it without the hole but it has a huge advantage to. When you normally put your iPad on a flat surface to type you notice it wobbles because it is not flat, now with this case and the hole it does not move at all.
I really enjoy this case I like the grip it gives me and the protection it offers.
  • The second item was this:

Yes a screen protector. Now I don’t have to worry about the screen getting dirty or that it get scartched. It is nice to be see my iPad protected like this and this screen protector comes with a cleaning cloth so that you can get all the dirt of you screen before you put it on. It is not to difficult to put it on but you need to focus when you do so.

As you can see now my iPad is safe from most acidents that can happen to it and you know what is even better, it does not have to cost much either.
Let me show you.

Bright Black Hard Case costs $5.84
Screen Proctor costs                  $2.47

And that makes the total $8.31 and that is including world wide free shipping. And because the Budgetgadget people like our site they offer you 5% discount on anything if you use the coupon code GM5OFF2 and that will make it that you can have those two items for less then 8 Dollars.

I would say be smart and protect you iPad because it is to expensive not to.

Canadian iPad Preorders delayed!

author Posted by: USBgeek on date May 28th, 2010 | filed Filed under: apple, iPad

As today should have bin the day that we would get the iPad.

But for me and dozen others this is not gone happen. Even though I preorderd on May 10 at 4.30am this didn’t mean anything.
The iPad 3G 64GB that I should have got today is still in a container in Toronto.

Apple used FedEx to ship this shipment and although they have an electroinc tracking system this does not show any actual information. So we preorders where all tracking our packages as it went over the globe and now my ipad in the system states still that it will be deliverd today and it say it is in Memphis. But it it’s both not true it is in Toronto and probably gone be Monday before it makes it way to Calgary.

And that while Apple says that FedEx is gone try to deliver it on the 29 the people at FedEx don’t seem to know about that.

So Apple what does it mean if you preorder? I guess it just tells you how many extra iPad you had to make and the you can just not send it in time.

As you get from this post you know that I am pretty mad about this…..

Lets see what Apple is gone say.

UPDATE: When I called Apple on the phone nr in the email they send me they did not know anything and definitly nothing about the email.
So I decided to try my luck at the Apple store and was lucky and got my iPad 3G 64 GB :)

Later that evening FedEx delivered my iPad that was preorderd around 7PM and that while nothing in there system told me that it was even on the way to Calgary yet. So now I have an extra iPad that maybe I sell or I may return it to the Apple store because I don’t need two.

Scosche iKit puts your iPad in the car

author Posted by: USBgeek on date May 3rd, 2010 | filed Filed under: iPad

OK so now you have your iPad and you love it I hope and you love it so much that you take it everywhere.

I can see myself enjoying it on the road with maps on it and my music.

But a loose iPad in a car is not that safe is it.

Scosche is working on a kit that mounts your iPad to your dash. Go check out the video below and see how it works.

The idea is great and it looks pretty nice to. What I don’t like is that the radio is gone :( this way you can only listen to music from the iPad no more local stations that tell you about traffic or weather. Maybe it would work better if they make this holder on a arm you can move.

What do you think?

And it even comes with a little stand but I don’t know if the stand can hold an iPad because it is made for smart phones.

But as you see there is an small and easy solution for people who travel with iPad and that need a keyboard.
