After a coupe of months really heavily using my 2e generation iPod touch as my PDA and what ever else you can think of I decided that it was time to get a new cell phone plan and because of that the iPhone 3G came to mind.
And so I went out to get an iPhone one without a Data Plan witch Fido was very helpful of making sure no data will be charged.
But now the question was how do I get my stuff from my Touch to my iPhone?
I tried to hook up my iPod Touch to iTunes and then my iPhone and wow it asked me if I wanted to restore my touch. Great I thought BUT not so fast, after i selected that i wanted my data restored iTunes told me that the iPhone software was to old! What I just got the thing. But OK that option was not working so i had to choose the option setting up a new iPhone.
After that happened I let it sync but it would be smarter not to do this.
When you arrive to the iTunes screen with you iPhone info click the option check for update. Then the new software will be downloaded and installed.
After that all is done and you iPhone is ready to be used click the option Restore. it askes you if you are sure and if you want to make a backup to me making a backup would be a waste of time so i said no.
OK so now the iPhone will get back to factory settings BUT with the new iPhone software on it. And when it is done with all this it will give you again the option to restore from you touch and now will work.
My first impression is that everything got copied (expect my music but that does not give a problem) even my mail settings are over but I need to fill in the password again. Even my notes, shopping lists and everything else seems to be there. But check your settings in my case in noticed that my prefered wireless networks are all gone but that is just a way of cleaining it up and getting it up and running again.
I have to say when it worked I was very happy with this but it took some efford to get it working hopefully you did not have to find it out by yourself and let me know how your data copy between you iPod’s went.
