Looking for a Cordless phone to use with your internet calling programs like Skype, MSN or Parlino?
If so then this could be your changes to get one. Parlino the new VoIp company (owned by Tele2) offers a free Topcom cordless USB phone if you buy for 30 euro worth of calling time. OK you need to buy something to get this phone but still you can use the money for calls all over the world.
Ok Ok back to the phone. I thought it was a interesting deal so I got my self this Topcom Phone. So yesterday DHL delivered the phone. It comes in a small box with a one sheet manual, you can not even call it a manual really. But there is a complete manual available on the Topcom and Parlino websites.
The phone is a simplified version of the Topcom Buttler 4012 phone, that phone also has a normal phone option so that you can use it as normal and VoIP phone. So this Parlino phone doesn’t have that connection. I checked this out by opening the phone and i found that the place where normally the RJ11 connector is placed now the print is empty.
Also after reading the normal Topcom Buttler 4012 manual i noticed that it has some more options like a clock that are not in this Parlino version.
Now we go on about how it works. What i did is first try it with Parlino. The phone doesn’t come with any software. The phone driver need to be downloaded from the Parlino website (it’s can be found in the Shop area not the download area).
After installing this driver and restarting Parlino the phone worked great with Parlino all worked without a hitch.
But now the interesting part comes
Of course I didn’t just get this phone to use it with Parlino
So what did i do to make it work!
What I did is i downloaded version 1.4 (the newest at that time) of the Topcom Buttler 4012 phone from the topcom site. After just installing that software Skype and MSN worked with a hitch. I had some problems with Parlino after that but after a reboot that problem was also solved. Be aware that you can only use it for one program at a time!
The only problem i got was that my active sound device in windows was changed to the phone so my msn and other computer sounds didn’t come out any more. But this was easily changed in control panel.
After i got it to work with msn and Skype I wanted more. I normally use Internetcalls (because I can call my friends for free) so i wanted that to work to. Internet calls support SIP and The topcom software suports SJphone so that connection was made. The installation for Internetcalls cost-ed a lot more work then i thought but after a couple of hours i finally got it to work. And now my friends in Holland can call me on my local phone number in Holland (that i got for free from Internetcalls) and my new Parlino phone rings here in Sweden
For those of you that would like to use SJphone with Internetcalls this are the settings i use:
Use SIPproxy
Proxy domain = sip.internetcalls.com
Proxy stict outbound should not be checked
server address = stun.internetcalls.com
the rest of the settings i didn’t change and now it works.
I also got Parlino to work through SJphone so now i don’t need the internetcalls and Parlino software any more.
So now you know how to get this working ;)
